Maybe you aren't like me and so aren't troubled by the systematic destruction of Brooklyn. Maybe you think Mike Bloomberg is the best mayor in the history of mayors rather than a guy who tempers his plutocratic regime with occasional dashes of rationality. Whatever. Everybody's got a right to an opinion.
But surely we can agree that suddenly to decide you don't like term limits once they apply to you is absurd? Particularly when you only got into office when the crazy asshole who preceded you came to his own peace with term limits? The fast-tracking of the proposed law that would allow this to happen SMELLS. Smells potently! Smells like a bag of crap on a hot summer day!
The merits of term limits are themselves debatable; some think term limits restrict democracy, while others think they prop it up by limiting the power of incumbency. What I think is less debatable is that it is not appropriate to change such a law for oneself. Repeal term limits for the person serving after you if you're doing it on principle.
As I have before, I must quote Tennessee Williams: MENDACITY!
